Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced the completion of a trade with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees which brings the rights to all-star defenseman Jason Tessier (TESS-ee-ay) to the Mudbugs for the 2005-2006 season. In exchange, the Mudbugs have sent defenseman Kevin Wilson to Rio Grande Valley, whose rights were acquired in a previous transaction with the San Angelo Saints.
Tessier, a 6'1 225-pound blueliner, is a two-time CHL all-star including his selection last season as the Killer Bees' lone representative in the Dodge CHL All-Star Game in Laredo. Last season, he led Rio Grande Valley in points by a defenseman (10 goals and 27 assists) and in plus-minus (minus-3). In 2003-2004, Tessier also led the Killer Bees in points by a defenseman with 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points and was named a finalist for the CHL's "Most Outstanding Defenseman" Award.
"We certainly hope we can sign him and have him in a Mudbugs uniform this season," said Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "He's a very well-rounded defenseman with offensive abilities and also leadership abilities. He's got a very steady background in this league with his years in El Paso and the last two with a quality organization like Rio Grande. Hopefully, we can bring him here and he can be a big part of our defense."
The St. Jerome, Quebec native spent three seasons from 2000-2003 with the El Paso Buzzards and ranks third in points among their top scoring defensemen. Tessier leaves Rio Grande Valley as their all-time leader in points by a blueliner with 76 in 121 games over the last two seasons. His career total of 318 professional games played over the last five seasons puts him in the "veteran" category in the CHL. The 25-year-old played his junior hockey with Rouyn-Noranda of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League prior to turning pro.
The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs are currently preparing for their ninth hockey season in the Ark-La-Tex which will begin in October. Season ticket packages and corporate partnerships are currently available by calling 318-752-BUGS or by visiting www.mudbugshockey.com.
