Island Storm News Release

(Charlottetown, PE) 6'3" Rashad Whack from Hyattsville, Maryland, has signed with the Island STORM of the NBL Canada.

Playing last season for Division 1 Mount St. Mary's University of the Northeast Conference (NEC), Whack led his team in scoring with 17.6 points per game, good for 4th in the NEC. Whack also grabbed almost 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 42% from the floor. Whack was also one of the top 3 point shooters in the NEC last year finishing 5th in 3 point shots made and percentage.

Rashad Whack started his college career at George Mason University in Virginia before transferring to Mount St. Mary's after his sophomore year. Whack led "The Mount" in scoring in his Junior and Senior years. Whack was also named to ALL NEC Second team in 2013-2014 while leading "The Mount" to the 2014 North East Conference Championship.

"This is truly a blessing and I am thankful and honored for this opportunity," says Whack. "I'd like to thank Coach Joe Salerno and the Island Storm organization for having interest in me and giving me this opportunity. I am excited to join The Storm and be coached by Coach Salerno. I will do whatever is needed of me to help this team be successful this season."

Meanwhile, STORM Coach Salerno feels Whack can have an impact on the STORM. "I had the opportunity to watch Rashad over the course of 3 days in Philadelphia this summer," says Salerno, "and he was playing in a pro-am with NBA players and in my opinion as one of the most consistent and well-rounded players there. He has always been known as a scorer but his defensive instincts and abilities are really what turned me onto him. He is a very good defender both on the ball and off with a high basketball IQ. He also poses as a serious offensive threat and someone who will consistently knock down the 3 point shot. I think Rashad, as a true rookie, has the potential to have an immediate impact on our organization and the NBL in general. We are very excited to get him into camp and see what he is capable of at the next level in his career."

Island STORM season ticket holders from last year are reminded they can now renew their STORM season tickets for the coming season at the box office at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.

Season ticket holders from last year have until Monday September 15th to renew their season tickets. Starting on the 16th all fans will have an opportunity to purchase season tickets to October 3rd. Single game tickets for STORM basketball will go on sale Monday October 6th.
