
Mount Miguel RB/LB Named Riptide Ironman

SAN DIEGO â Last Friday night, Mount Miguel RB/LB Dwayne Ary rushed for a school-record 322 yards and scored 30 of the Matadors' 37 points as Mount Miguel beat El Cajon Valley 37-20. As a result of this offensive explosion and a solid defense effort, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior has been named the sandiegoriptide.com High School Ironman of the Week of October 4-5, 2002.
Still not totally back from a knee injury that sidelined him for most of his junior season, Ary ran the ball 33 times for 322 yards with four touchdowns and three 2-point conversions. He shattered single-game school marks for yards (263 was previous) and points scored (27 was previous). The 322 rushing yards is the second most in Grossmont Conference history. Defensively, he added six total tackles.
He will be honored prior to the Riptide's 2003 home opener with all the weekly award winners and the Ironman of the Year. The entire Mount Miguel varsity football team will receive tickets to that game to support their teammate.
Additional tickets to that game will be available at discounted rates for family members, friends and classmates. Riptide Head Coach Cree Morris will stop by the after the team's walk-through practice Thursday at 4:30pm to present Ary a certificate and talk to the team.
"Dwayne got hurt three games into last season and missed the first two games this year," Mount Miguel Head Coach Jess Barragan said. "You have to give this kid credit for sticking it out. He wasn't 100 percent against Santana last week, but had a real coming out game this week."
This Friday, the Matadors host Valhalla. Kickoff is slated for 7:30pm. Mount Miguel is located at 1800 Sweetwater Rd., Spring Valley 91977.

At the end of the high school season a player will be selected as the "sandiegoriptide.com Ironman of the Year", and will be awarded a trophy at the Riptide's 2003 home opener. The qualifications will be contingent upon who had the best offensive and defensive season.
