Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa - On a night when the Fighting Saints set out to honor wounded Marine Christopher Billmyer, the pregame ceremonies were more eventful than the first period. Billmyer's brother dropped the ceremonial first puck, a prayer was said, and the National Anthem was sung by a Billmyer family friend prior to the game. Players wore yellow ribbons on their jerseys as money was raised through ticket sales and auctions for the Billmyer family.

The first period featured two power plays for the Fighting Saints, but they came up empty handed as Connor Wilson saved all 10 shots he faced. Matt Morris also had a perfect period, stopping 3 of 3 shots. The second period played out much the same way, with up and down play around the ice, but both teams came up empty handed as the Saints had fired 18 shots on to Wilson by the end of the period and Morris had faced 14.

John Gaudreau scored a quick powerplay goal for the Fighting Saints 50 seconds into the third period, getting the feed from Vinny Saponari and TJ Schlueter. That was all the offense that Dubuque would need, as Morris finished with 24 saves for his second consecutive shutout in Dubuque's second consecutive 1-0 victory. The Fighting Saints return to the ice at 7 PM on Saturday against Indiana.
