Inter Miami CF News Release
While Inter Miami continues preparing for its second match in the group stage of the MLS is Back Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, midfielder Lewis Morgan and defender Román Torres addressed media via a videoconference call.
Morgan stressed the fact that trusting our team's own strengths is the key to achieving a better result against Philadelphia Union in the Club's second group stage match.
"It's important that we look back and learn from the last game because we have a very important game against Philadelphia coming up. We played Philadelphia in preseason. They're a good side, they've got strengths, but it's about us. I think as a team we need to focus on us and our identity and what we want to achieve as a team," said the 23-year-old Scottish winger.
"Obviously it's important that we are looking at the strengths and weaknesses of the sides we are playing against, but within our group we've got enough talent and enough desire to win. It's going to come down to us and if we can implement our game plan. It's important for us to try and make sure that this game is one we take the three points from."
Meanwhile, Torres, Panamanian center back and MLS veteran, highlighted the importance of managing the mental aspect of the team as Inter Miami seeks to get our Club's first MLS win, while also sharing Morgan's views that trusting the coaching staff, our players' abilities and the work the team has been putting in will be vital going into Tuesday's matchup.
"It is fundamental that the team is doing well mentally, which is the area we have to work on the most in the days prior to the game. The most important thing is to be concentrated. In soccer, you have to know how to win and lose, but always keeping that mentality of wanting to win," highlighted Torres, who will be able to help the team on the pitch following the end of a suspension that kept him out of our first match in the tournament. "We have a mature group, we were disappointed with the loss against Orlando, but we have already turned the page and analyzed the mistakes we made so that we don't repeat it in this match coming up. Overall, the group is doing well physically and mentally."
"The game against Philadelphia on Tuesday will be a tough one, so we have to apply what we have been working on, stay focused, keep possession of the ball and finish our chances in front of goal," he added.
Inter Miami will continue MLS is Back Tournament play with its second group stage match on Tuesday, July 14 when it takes on Philadelphia Union at 10:30 p.m. ET. The match is set to air on TUDN.
