Winston-Salem T-Birds News Release


The Winston-Salem T-Birds are back for home games at the Joel Coliseum Annex this Thursday and Friday night at 7:30PM. The T-Birds begin the week in the South East Hockey League in fourth place with a record 16 wins and 28 losses for 32 points. The T-Birds are six points out of the final SEHL playoff spot with 12 games left in the regular season. Winston-Salem is fighting with both Cape Fear & Knoxville for the final two playoff spots. The Huntsville Channel Cats have clinched the SEHL regular season championship and will receive a first round bye in the SEHL playoffs.

Following the T-Birds home contests with Huntsville (Thursday) and Knoxville (Friday), the team travels to Alabama for a return match against the Channel Cats on Saturday night. Saturday's game is the first of a four-game road trip.

T-Birds "New Guys"

Two recent additions to Coach Randy Irving's line-up who have made an impact are forwards Dan Howard & Shane Fukushima. Howard, from Freehold, New Jersey has played four games for Winston-Salem, scoring one goal and adding two assists for three points. He played college hockey at the University of Delaware. This season, he began the year with the fledgling North Michigan Predators of the IIHL before playing 5 games with the Flint Generals of the UHL. Fukushima, a native of Owatonna, Minnesota, played college hockey at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls before making brief stops with Rockford (UHL), Bossier-Shreveport (CHL), and Oklahoma City (CHL). Fukushima has appeared in three games for the T-Birds and has one assist.
