Pittsfield Suns News Release

PITTSFIELD, MA (July 14, 2015) - Matt Morales and the Suns were too much for the Seacoast Mavericks to handle Tuesday night at Wahconah Park. Morales totaled four RBIs in a 7-3 victory.

Seacoast struck fast in the first frame. A two-out walk to Michael Purcell came back to haunt Pittsfield the very next batter when Ryan Gendron smacked a two-run homer to give the Mavericks an early 2-0 lead.

The Mavericks would be able to manage one more run in the fifth inning. An error by Suns' first baseman put Cameron Oliveira on first, before a wild pitch and a single by Will D'Agostino allowed a run to cross the plate to extend Seacoasts lead to 3-0.

Pittsfield's bats came to life in a big way the next inning, sending eight runners to the plate and scoring four runs in the sixth. Ryan Olmo led off the inning with a single, followed by a double from Casey McCone. After Tyler Lyne lined out for the first out of Dan Palazzo singled to plate the Suns first run of the frame. The Mavericks then issued a two out walk to Bobby Kinne to load the bases. Matt Morales stepped to the plate and on a 1-0 pitch smacked a bases clearing triple to give Pittsfield the 4-3 lead.

The Suns added some insurance in the eighth, plating three runs, highlighted again by an RBI single by Morales.

Michael Spada recorded the win for the Suns, after coming on in the sixth inning to replace Matt Van Riper. Van Riper pitched five innings, giving up three hits and two earned runs before giving way to Spada. Seacoasts' Ryan Ricci would be pegged with the loss.

The Suns are back on the diamond at Wahconah Park tomorrow, Wednesday, July 15th when they face the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs at 7 PM. For tickets please call (413)445-SUNS or visit pittsfieldsuns.com.
