Halifax Mooseheads News Release

The Mooseheads were behind the eight ball nearly from the drop of the puck on Saturday night in St. John's where they were blanked 6-0 by the Regiment in a one-sided affair.

Costly defensive gaffes led to a pair of breakaways and two early goals on starter Jack Fichthorn who was pulled from the game after a third goal on five shots when Newfoundland made it a 3-0 on another weak defensive effort in front of the goalie. Friday's winning goalie Carson Mertz took over for the final 50 minutes and 17 seconds and didn't get any help in front of him either as he allowed three goals on 22 shots.

The Halifax offence was basically non existent throughout the game with very little in terms of quality scoring chances despite putting 25 shots on goal. Antoine Proulx picked up his first career shutout for the Regiment.

The home team got a pair of goals each from Alexis Michaud and Michael Frost as they earned a weekend split with the Herd and handed Halifax their first regulation loss of the season.

The Mooseheads record sits at 2-1-1-0 through four games and will use the rest of the week to correct their issues ahead of another road trip that will see stops in Moncton on Friday night and Saint John on Sunday afternoon.

The next Mooseheads home games at Scotiabank Centre are scheduled for Thursday, October 8th (Student Night) at 7pm versus Rouyn-Noranda and Saturday, October 10th (Country Night) at 7pm versus Drummondville. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca .
