Moose Pick Up 3-Of-4 Points In Week 19

The Manitoba Moose required extra-time in both their games against the San Antonio Rampage in Week 19 where they ended up earning three of a possible four points. The Moose dropped a 5-4 overtime decision on Friday night, but outlasted the Rampage the following night in a 4-3 shootout victory.

Friday, February 5, 2010: Manitoba 4, San Antonio 5 (OT)

Despite forcing overtime with a last second goal in the third period, the Moose surrendered a fourth period marker to suffer a 5-4 loss to the visiting San Antonio Rampage in front of 9,358 fans at MTS Centre on Friday night. Dan Sexton potted a pair of goals while Matt Pettinger and Marty Murray rounded out the scoring. Goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 27 of 32 shots in his 15th loss this season.

Saturday, February 6, 2010: Manitoba 4, San Antonio 3 (SO)

For the second consecutive night the Moose and Rampage needed extra time to determine a winner, but this time Manitoba came out on top -- beating San Antonio 4-3 in a shootout in front of a sold out crowd at MTS Centre.

Moose Notes

OUTSIDE OF THE NORTH:

So far this season, the Moose have struggled when playing teams outside their own division. When playing their North Division rivals, Manitoba is 12-5-1-0 this season. Yet, when playing a team outside of the North, the Moose are 13-17-4-1. Previous to Saturday's victory, the Moose had dropped three consecutive games to West Division opponents (January 15, 2-7L vs. Milwaukee; January 16, 2-6L vs. Milwaukee; February 5, 4-5OTL vs. San Antonio).

WORKING OVERTIME:

Manitoba has not found success in the fourth period this season, holding a 2-5 record in overtime games. The tides turn, however, when the game is pushed into a shootout. Manitoba is 7-1 this season in the shooting contest.

Upcoming Opponents

This weekend the Manitoba Moose will play host to the Toronto Marlies to close-out their four game set at MTS Centre. So far this season, the Moose hold a 2-0-0-0 record against the Maple Leafs affiliate. Historically, Manitoba is 22-8-2-2 against Toronto. Marco Rosa leads all current Moose skaters with three points (1g, 2a) against the Marlies so far this season.

Player of the Week Nominee

Dan Sexton

For the first time this season, Dan Sexton is nominated for AHL Player of the Week... Sexton was re-assigned to the Moose by the Anaheim Ducks on Jan. 31/10... In his first game back with the club on Feb. 5/10, he scored two goals, one on the powerplay, and fired six shots on net... He finished the night a plus-2... The following night in a rematch against San Antonio, the right-winger carried the Moose to a 4-3 shootout victory when he scored the game-winner in the shooting competition... So far this season, Sexton has appeared in seven games with the Moose where he has accumulated five points (3g, 2a).
