Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, today announced an extension to their developmental affiliation agreement with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL. The agreement is a one-year extension that will see the Moose and Salmon Kings work together for the second season in a row in order to develop players within the Canucks organization.

The Moose and Salmon Kings originally entered into their affiliation agreement, along with the Vancouver Canucks back on July 18, 2006. The Canucks and Salmon Kings announced an extension of their agreement on May 30, 2007.

"We are looking forward to once again working with Dan Belisle, Mark Morrison and the rest of the Salmon Kings organization next season," said Craig Heisinger, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of the Moose. "We made great strides in the inaugural year of our partnership in 2006 and the Salmon Kings did a good job in the development of some players we hope will play a role in the future of the Manitoba Moose."

The Salmon Kings made their first-ever ECHL playoff appearance in 2006-07 by finishing third in the Western Division with a record of 36-32-4. Under the guidance of Head Coach Mark Morrison, a number of Salmon Kings made appearances in Manitoba Moose uniforms last season including goaltender Julien Ellis who was named to the ECHL All-Star Game, along with defencemen Matt Kelly and Phil Cole and forward Milan Gajic who finished the season with 65 points (24G, 41A) in 61 games with Victoria.

The Salmon Kings will kick off their fourth season in the ECHL in Idaho on Oct 19, 2007, and will host the Las Vegas Wranglers for the Home Opener Series on Oct 26 and 27. The Manitoba Moose schedule will be announced along with the rest of the American Hockey League schedule in early August.
