
Monarchs Unveil Reading & Learning Center at WIND

WHO: The entire Sacramento Monarchs team and coaching staff, volunteers from Maloof Sports & Entertainment, Wells Fargo and Dome Printing and youth from WIND Youth Services
WHAT: The entire Sacramento Monarchs team and coaching staff will join with volunteers from Wells Fargo, Dome Printing and Maloof Sports & Entertainment to donate a Monarchs Reading & Learning Center to WIND Youth Services. The donation includes a computer lab, reading corner and library. Volunteers will be painting, assembling and refurbishing the two existing rooms that will house the Reading and Learning Center. The Center will be unveiled in an afternoon ceremony to homeless youth currently utilizing WIND services. Monarchs players and coaches will also interact with the youth, who will receive books and other gifts.
WIND Youth Services is a local non-profit agency established in 1994 to directly address the immediate and long-range needs of Sacramento area homeless, runaway and street youth and their families. WIND Youth Services engages youth experiencing homelessness who need safety from the streets and access to resources to help them move from crisis to healthy functioning and independence.
The 2007 Monarchs season marks the 11th consecutive year in which the Monarchs have adopted reading and literacy as a community priority. This event is in conjunction with the WNBA's Read to Achieve initiative, which aims to build a lifelong love of reading in youth by providing greater access to books and technology.
