
Monarchs to face Houston in Western Conference Finals

SACRAMENTO, CALIF., September 5, 2005 - The Sacramento Monarchs will face the Houston Comets in the 2005 WNBA Western Conference Finals, beginning Thursday, September 8, at 8:00 p.m.. CDT, to be televised on ESPN. The Monarchs have advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the fourth time in five years and will host games two and three (if necessary) at ARCO Arena. Game two will be on Saturday, September 10, at 2:30 p.m. PDT, televised on ESPN2 and game a possible game three will be on Sunday, September 11, at 12:00 p.m. PDT, televised on ESPN2.
During the regular season the Monarchs won two of the three games against Houston. Sacramento won the first game, 74-68, at Sacramento, Houston won the second game, 58-54, at Houston and the Monarchs won the final game, 55-45, at Sacramento.
This marks the third ever match up between Sacramento and Houston in the WNBA Playoffs and the first ever Western Conference finals meeting for these two teams. The Monarchs are 2-3 all-time against the Comets in the Playoffs. The last time the two teams met in the post season was during the First Round of the 2003 Playoffs. It was a best of three series in which the Monarchs won the first game at home, 69-65, lost the second game, 69-48, at Houston, and in the final meeting won, 70-68 advancing to the Western Conference Finals for the second time in franchise history.
