Monarchs Host Rally for Students at Franklin Community Library

WHO: The Sacramento Monarchs team, Monarchs mascot Monty, the Sacramento Breakers and local students

WHAT: In celebration of WNBA Cares Week, the entire Sacramento Monarchs team will visit students at Franklin Community Library to help tip-off the Sacramento Public Library's Summer Reading Program with a Monarchs Reading Rally.

Monarchs players will promote the importance of education and literacy and participate in a question-and-answer session, autograph session and hula hoop contest with the students. Monty the Monarchs mascot and the Sacramento Breakers will perform.

The Sacramento Monarchs will also provide an incentive to all students who complete the Sacramento Public Library's Summer Reading Program - all students who complete the program will receive a complimentary ticket to the Monarchs vs. Los Angeles Sparks game on August 1. Each student will also receive a new book and other fun Monarchs prizes.

The Monarchs Home Opener is Saturday, June 6, at 1 p.m. vs. the Seattle Storm. All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Opening Day pin and Thunderstix. Expect Great Basketball!

The Sacramento Monarchs support the Read to Achieve initiative, a year-round, league-wide initiative supported by NBA, WNBA and NBA D-League teams that promotes the value of reading and on-line literacy and encourages families and adults to read regularly with young children. The program includes thousands of reading timeouts, the donation of books and literacy materials and the creation of Reading and Learning Centers and Reading Corners throughout the world.
