Moment of Silence for Coretta Scott King
February 1, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Atlanta, GA. Embry Malone and Phil Oliver, two professional basketball executives, are asking all pro basketball worldwide to join in a moment of silence today and at their next basketball game for the passing of civil rights icon Mrs. Coretta Scott King of Atlanta. According to Malone, "Phil and I have been intimate personal friends of the King family for the past 26 years; Martin Luther King III has been a staunch supporter of pro basketball. Mrs. King was the "first lady of the civil rights movement" and carried on the legacy of her husband, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will miss her." Ricardo Richardson, ABA EVP, added, "Today is the first day of Black History Month. Let us not forget the impact the Kings have made on our lives. They helped make this a better world." Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
