Amsterdam Mohawks News Release
The Amsterdam Mohawks scored 19 runs in two games to pick up 6-4 and 13-3 wins over the Glens Falls Dragons Friday night at Shuttleworth Park.
Drew Freedman (Wake Forest) led the charge offensively after going 5-for-8 with three singles, a double, and a solo home run. Freedman also scored four runs and drove in three. Hunter Tackett (Auburn) hit a grand slam, his 7th home run of the season, on a night where he finished 2-for-6 with six RBIs.
Glens Falls was led offensively by Brennan Price (Felician) who completed the doubleheader going 3-for 6 with a single, double, and home run. Price scored once and drove in two.
Fernando Guerrero (Marshall) picked up the win for Amsterdam in game one after going four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out two to improve to 5-2. Guerrero's performance was helped by Freedman's leadoff solo shot in the first and Handsome Monica's (Arizona) two-run shot in the fifth.
In game two, Amsterdam batted around in both the first and third innings. In those innings, the Mohawks scored ten runs on eight hits, including a grand slam by Tackett that made the score 10-0 in the bottom of the third. Joe Randall (Fairfield) picked up the win after Nygeal Andrews (Radford) failed to go the required four innings minimum. Randall improved to 2-0 on the season with two scoreless, hitless innings of work.
For the Dragons, Tyler Ehlers (Colorado Mesa) took the loss (1-2) in game one after allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings on the hill. Ehlers walked two and struck out three. In game two, Sam Steeves (Franklin Pierce) dropped to 1-2 after giving up nine runs (seven earned) on five hits in just 2.1 innings.
The Mohawks (35-10) and Dragons (21-24) will play a third straight game Saturday night at East Field in Glens Falls at 7 p.m. After tonight's games, the Dragons remain just half a game ahead of the Albany Dutchmen for the East Division's final playoff spot.
