Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - Even with potent bats added to the Lancaster lineup, the offense could not get to Modesto. The JetHawks were held to just one run and six hits as the Nuts completed a three-game sweep of the JetHawks with a 5-1 win. It is the first time Lancaster has been swept in a series this year and drops the club to a season-high three games below .500 (9-12).

The offense was held in check by Nuts starter Esmil Rogers, despite Reid Engel's return to the lineup after missing five games. Rogers struck out eight Lancaster hitters while pitching into the sixth. In that inning the JetHawks finally snapped a string of 22 consecutive innings without scoring. With one out Lars Anderson singled and Jon Still doubled. Josh Reddick's sacrifice fly brought home Lancaster's lone run.

Jaymie Russ struggled into the fourth inning for Lancaster, allowing three runs. The JetHawks bullpen fared better. Brian Steinocher hurled three innings of scoreless, hitless relief, and Josh Papelbon retired both batters he faced. Offensively, Anderson and Still each had two hits for the JetHawks. Chih-Hsien Chiang went 0-3 and saw his hit streak ended at 11.

The JetHawks open a seven-game homestand Friday night at Clear Channel Stadium. Travis Beazley (1-2) will start for Lancaster against Storm pitcher Corey Kluber (0-2). The game starts at 7:00 with the pre-game show on Magic 1340 and www.JetHawks.com beginning at 6:45. After the game the JetHawks will celebrate the 2007 Red Sox World Series Championship as part of their Friday Night Fireworks spectacular.
