The brightest lights on the MLS stage for First Kick 2007 shine on new Dick's Sporting Goods Park, the new home of the Colorado Rapids, making its debut in front of an ABC Sports audience. The Rapids have also undergone a rebirth, changing the club logo and colors, now wearing burgundy and blue in their bid for a first trophy in club history. They play host to D.C. United, the winningest club in MLS history which last year won the Supporters' Shield with the best record in the league, only to fall at home in the Eastern Conference Championship.

Two Western Conference clubs who finished on opposite ends of the division a season ago face off in their 2007 season opener. Real Salt Lake kicks off their third season aiming for a first-ever trip to the MLS Cup Playoffs. A year ago, FC Dallas won the regular season title in the Western Conference, only to be eliminated by the Colorado Rapids for the second season in a row and be denied the opportunity to play in a first MLS Cup Final in their own stadium.

A pair of Eastern Conference clubs looking to move into the upper echelon of the division face off in their 2007 season opener. The Columbus Crew, just two years removed from a Supporters' Shield-winning campaign, are looking to return to the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2004. The New York Red Bulls have Bruce Arena at the helm from the outset this year, a season ago once again reaching the postseason thanks to a near-miraculous final day victory and then pushing D.C. United to the limit before going down to defeat.

What has become one of the more heated rivalries in Major League Soccer resumes again to kick off the 2007 season, as the New England Revolution make a return visit to Toyota Park to face the Chicago Fire. The two teams inaugurated the new Bridgeview stadium with a wild game, three goals in stoppage time in a 3-3 draw. Then, the teams met in the MLS Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive year (and fifth time ever), the Revolution again getting the upper hand with a victory on penalty kicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. However, the Fire have eliminated the Revolution from the U.S. Open Cup each of the last two years, in '06 in the quarterfinals on their way to winning the Dewar Trophy for a fourth time.

It will be a night of historic proportions at The Home Depot Center as Toronto FC makes their debut against Chivas USA. The first Major League Soccer club from Canada, Toronto FC begins play as the 13th team in the league. They will be taking on a Chivas USA team just two years removed from its bow, a unique club in its own right, a sister club to Mexican powerhouse CD Guadalajara which last year reached the MLS Cup Playoffs.
