MLL Offensive Player of the Week
Ryan Powell (ROC), A, 6'0", 200
Powell erupted for a career-high ten points on seven goals and three assists in setting a new franchise single-game record for points. With the Rattlers down at half, Powell scored seven points (fi ve goals, two assists) as Rochester tried to mount a second-half comeback, falling short against the Baltimore Bayhawks, 24-18.
MLL Defensive Player of the Week
Peter Inge (BOS), M, 5'9", 180
Despite not registering a point, Inge's importance was clear in the box score; he won an MLL record-tying 28 faceoffs in 34 chancesâan amazing 82%âin helping Boston to a dramatic 17-16 comeback victory over the defending champion Long Island Lizards. Inge's key faceoff wins helped set up the gametying goal, initial go-ahead goal and game-winning score with eight seconds left. Inge also notched a game-high 11 ground balls.
Week One Game Recaps
New Jersey 17, Philadelphia 13 (May 22) - Adam Doneger registered fi ve goals and an assist and Jesse Hubbard scored a goal in every quarter to lead the Pride to a season-opening victory in Philadelphia. Doneger, acquired in a blockbuster trade during training camp, was named Bud Light Game MVP. Blake Miller scored four goals and added an assist, and newcomer Liam Banks registered a leaguehigh six assists for the Barrage.
Boston 17, Long Island 16 (May 22) - Tim Byrnes' behind-theback, underhanded goal with 8 seconds remaining gave the Cannons a dramatic comeback victory in front of a franchise record 6,312 fans. The defending champion Lizards jumped out to an 8-4 halftime lead behind two goals from Jay Jalbert, who fi nished with a game-high four tallies. David Evans (3 goals, Bud Light Game MVP) and Michael Watson (3 goals, 1 two-point goal, 1 assist) each netted a pair of goals in the second half to lead the Cannons' surge.
Baltimore 24, Rochester 18 (May 22) - Mark Millon notched four goals, including a two-pointer, and a pair of assists for seven points, and Jeff Sonke earned Bud Light Game MVP honors with four goals and an assist, as Baltimore pounded Rochester in a Wild West Tour game at Seahawks Stadium in Seattle, WA. Baltimore tied a record with 11 fi rst-quarter points and set a new MLL record with 18 points at halftime. The Rattlers put up quite a fi ght, led by Ryan Powell's careerhigh seven goals and added three assists for a league-high ten points.
