Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Thanks to standout pitching, San Antonio parlayed a first-inning lead into a 5-1 victory over the Hooks in Tuesday's series opener at Whataburger Field.

The Missions mustered three consecutive two-out hits in the opening frame, including a double off the bat of Thomas Milonefor a 2-0 advantage.

That was all the damage against Jimmy Endersby, who scattered six hits and two walks over a club-best six innings.

Reggie Lawsonearned the victory by holding the Hooks to a pair of knocks over five frames.

Corpus Christi's run came on a lead-off home run by Justin Dirden in the fourth.

Michel Baez struck out three Hooks in a perfect sixth. Dinelson Lamet stranded a pair in the seventh and Alek Jacob retired six of seven to seal the victory.

The Missions netted three insurance runs in the seventh against Matt Ruppenthal.

Hooks right-hander Layne Henderson kept the San Antonio off the board in the eighth and ninth.

Corpus Christi turns to Jaime Melendez in Game 2 on Wednesday. Thomas Eshelman is the probable for San Antonio.
