Saint Louis FC News Release
ST. LOUIS - Three second-half goals rallied FC Montreal past Saint Louis FC 3-1 on Saturday night at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in front of a record crow of 5,321 fans.
With the loss, STL FC falls to 5-9-7 (22 pts.) on the season. FC Montreal moves to 6-12-3 (21 pts.).
STL FC led Montreal in shots 19-11. However, Saint Louis FC once again was unable to convert on a number of quality opportunites and the visitors took advantage.
"If we don't put away the chances that we had in the beginning of the first half, they're going to capitalize" Head Coach Dale Schilly said following the game. "We're chasing the game instead of dictating it."
After a deadlocked first half, FC Montreal went ahead in the 53rd minute when Jacques Haman scored low at the near post with a shot from 20 yards out.
The next two FC Montreal goals came late and in sequence, as Fabio Morelli and Yacine Ait-Slimane scored in the 85th & 87th minute, respectively, to put the visitors on top 3-0.
Saint Louis FC scored a consolation goal when Jamiel Hardware put the home side on the board with a header off a corner kick in the 89th minute. It was Hardware's second goal of the season.
"It's a cruel game," Schilly added. "It seems like we're getting punished at every part of the game. You have to be able to put it all together in all thirds of the field for 90 minutes. We're not doing that, and we're not getting wins when we feel like we could be getting wins."
Saint Louis FC will head to Charleston, N.C., to take on Charleston Battery on Saturday at MUSC Health Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM CT.
