March 31, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release
2004 MISL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES KICKS OFF APRIL 10...
Four post-season berths have been determined, but three teams remain in the running for the final two spots in the 2004 MISL Championship Series, which will begin with Quarterfinal games in Dallas and Philadelphia on Saturday, April 10.
While Kansas City (16-19), Cleveland (15-19), and St. Louis (13-20) are all mathematically alive for the final two slots, the Steamers face a daunting scenario. The club must win all of its final three games (in Monterrey on Wednesday and Monday, in Dallas on Sunday) AND hope that Kansas City and Cleveland go winless this weekend. The Comets finish their regular season at home on Saturday against San Diego, while the Force travels to Baltimore on Friday and Philadelphia on Saturday.
Kansas City, currently the fifth seed, enters the week with a slim half-game lead over sixth-seeded Cleveland. The Force claimed the season series between the clubs 3-1.
Western Division champion Dallas (20-14) and top wild card seed Philadelphia (19-15) are preparing for Quarterfinal contests on April 10. The Sidekicks will host the sixth postseason seed at 7:30 p.m. Central, while the KiXX will square off against the number five seed at 7:05 p.m. Eastern.
As expected, the battle for the top overall post-season seed â and home field advantage throughout the Championship Series â will come down to the final weekend of the regular season. Milwaukee (25-9) comes into the week with a full one-game edge over Baltimore (24-10). On Friday, the Wave hosts Philadelphia while Baltimore entertains Cleveland. The weekend's marquee match-up occurs on Saturday at 1st Mariner Arena, where the Blast and Wave will meet for the fourth and final time this season. Milwaukee is 2-1 against the Blast in 2003-04 and has outscored Baltimore 20-17.
Both Baltimore and Milwaukee will host Semifinal contests the week of April 16-18. Milwaukee's contest will take place on Friday, April 16, at 7:35 p.m. Central.
THIS WEEK'S MISL GAMES:
Wednesday, March 31, 2004
St. Louis Steamers at Monterrey Fury
Arena Monterrey, 8:35 p.m. CT
The Steamers head south to Monterrey facing a simple scenario: win, or be eliminated from post-season contention. St. Louis is 1-1 against the Fury this season.
Friday, April 2, 2004
Cleveland Force at Baltimore Blast
1st Mariner Arena, 7:35 p.m. ET
The Force is still in search of its first win against Baltimore this season. Cleveland is 1-9 against Eastern Division opponents and 5-11 on the road. Entering the week, Cleveland is holding the League's sixth and final post-season spot. The Blast continues to chase Milwaukee for the number one overall seed.
Philadelphia KiXX at Milwaukee Wave
U.S. Cellular Arena, 7:00 p.m. CT
The KiXX, only 2-8 in their last 10 games, are looking to right themselves entering the playoffs. Milwaukee holds a one-game lead over Baltimore for the MISL's top overall post-season seed coming into the week.
Monterrey Fury at San Diego Sockers
San Diego Sports Arena, 7:00 p.m. PT
The Fury visits San Diego for the Sockers' final home game of 2003-04. Both clubs have been eliminated from playoff contention. The Sockers are 4-1 against Monterrey this season.
Saturday, April 3, 2004
Cleveland Force at Philadelphia KiXX
Wachovia Spectrum, 7:05 p.m. ET
In the last meeting between these clubs on March 19, Cleveland recorded an 8-4 win that bolstered the club's post-season hopes. Philadelphia, already locked into the fourth seed and gearing up for a Quarterfinal game on Saturday, April 10, holds the advantage in the season series 4-1.
Milwaukee Wave at Baltimore Blast
1st Mariner Arena, 7:35 p.m. ET
The Charm City is the site of perhaps the weekend's most compelling game, as the Blast and Wave meet in game that could determine the League's top overall post-season seed. Entering the week, Milwaukee (25-9) holds a one-game lead over the Blast (24-10). The Wave leads the season series 2-1, but has only outscored Baltimore 20-17.
St. Louis Steamers at Dallas Sidekicks
Reunion Arena, 7:05 p.m. CT
The Steamers' must-win week continues with a game in Dallas against the Sidekicks, against whom St. Louis is 0-3 this season. Dallas, 14-3 at home in 2003-04, is locked into the third postseason seed and will host a Quarterfinal game on Saturday, April 10.
San Diego Sockers at Kansas City Comets
Kemper Arena, 7:35 p.m. CT
The final game of the season holds significance on two counts for the Comets. First, Kansas City is clinging to the League's fifth overall postseason slot, and pending the outcome of other games this week, could clinch with a win. And second, this contest could be the final Kemper Arena appearance for Wes Wade, who has indicated that he will retire following the season.
Sunday, April 4, 2004
Dallas Sidekicks at Monterrey Fury
Arena Monterrey, 6:35 p.m. CT
The Sidekicks have already clinched the Western Division title and third postseason seed. The Fury, 2-3 against Dallas in 2003-04, has been eliminated from postseason contention.
Monday, April 5, 2004
St. Louis Steamers at Monterrey Fury
Arena Monterrey, 1:05 p.m. CT
Arena Monterrey is the site of the final regular season game of 2003-04, as the Steamers make the trip to Mexico for the second time in a week.
