THIS WEEK'S MISL GAMES:

Friday, January 23, 2004

Monterrey Fury at Baltimore Blast

1st Mariner Arena, 7:35 p.m. ET

The MISL week kicks off with an East vs. West battle at 1st Mariner Arena. Baltimore is 2-0 against the Fury in 2003-04, winning those games by a combined score of 16-9. The Blast, riding a League high six-game winning streak, will face Monterrey for the second time in as many weeks. The Fury is currently in the middle of a six-game slide.

Milwaukee Wave at Cleveland Force

CSU Convocation Center, 7:35 p.m. ET

Cleveland and Milwaukee begin a weekend home-and-home series on Friday night in Cleveland. The Wave holds the edge in the series, 2-0. However, the Force is riding a two-game winning streak. All of Cleveland's victories this season have come against teams outside the Eastern Division.

Kansas City Comets at San Diego Sockers

San Diego Sports Arena, 7:00 p.m. PT

In only the second meeting of these two clubs this season, the Comets will travel west to meet the Sockers. San Diego holds a 7-5 home record and will look to repeat the November 9 performance in which they defeated the Comets 6-3.

Saturday, January 24, 2004

Cleveland Force at Milwaukee Wave

U.S. Cellular Arena, 6:00 p.m. CT

The Force will look to put a blemish on the Wave's perfect 7-0 home record with a trip to U.S. Cellular Arena. The season series between the clubs is tied at 1-1; Cleveland and Milwaukee have not met since a 10-6 Force win at home on November 1.

Monterrey Fury at Philadelphia KiXX

Wachovia Spectrum, 7:05 p.m. ET

This will be the second meeting of the season between the Fury and KiXX, with Philadelphia having won the first contest at home 8-5. Philadelphia boasts the third-best home record in the MISL at 6-2, and is currently on a two-game winning streak.

Baltimore Blast at Dallas Sidekicks

Reunion Arena, 7:05 p.m. CT

Two division leaders will collide when the Blast head to Dallas. The Sidekicks boast the League's fourth-best home record at 8-3, but Baltimore is the best road team in the MISL (6-3). Dallas is 0-2 in Baltimore this season but 1-0 against the Blast at Reunion Arena; all three games have been decided by one goal.

Kansas City Comets at St. Louis Steamers

Family Arena, 7:05 p.m. CT

These cross-state rivals meet for the third time in 2003-04. St. Louis has taken two of the first three meetings, but most recently fell 10-9 in Kansas City on December 26. The Steamers' ninth-ranked offense (4.4 goals per game) faces the most porous defense in the MISL (the Comets allow an average of 8.4 goals per game).

Sunday, January 25, 2004

Philadelphia KiXX at Dallas Sidekicks

Reunion Arena, 6:05 p.m. CT

The KiXX downed Dallas 5-4 in overtime at the Wachovia Spectrum on January 11, avenging an 8-4 loss in Dallas on October 22. Entering the week, Philadelphia is one of three teams in the League with a winning road record (5-4).

LEAGUE NOTES

- Reigning Spalding Scoring Champion MISL Most Valuable Player Dino Delevski of the Kansas City Comets has now scored in all 16 games he has played this season. Dating back to February 22, 2003, Delevski has scored in 22 consecutive games. Since the start of the 2000-01 season, Delevski has scored in a remarkable 90 percent of his appearances, having been held scoreless only 12 times in 130 games played.

- Entering the week, all three Eastern Division (Baltimore, Cleveland, Philadelphia) teams are riding winning streaks.

- With six assists against Kansas City on Saturday, Cleveland's Zoran Karic came within two of tying the League single-game record which he set nearly a decade ago, on February 4, 1995, against the Canton Invaders. The 42-year-old Karic is this League's all-time assists leader with 672, and indoor soccer's all-time leader with 838.

- The shutout recorded by Peter Pappas against San Diego on January 17 was the first in the MISL since April 2, 1999, when Pappas and the KiXX blanked the Florida ThunderCats 12-0. The blank sheet is the third of Pappas' career (he played 48:27 in a 16-0 win on March 27, 1999, and played all but four seconds on Saturday night). Only Jamie Swanner (with a remarkable eight) has more career shutouts.

- With 20 goals and 15 assists, Monterrey's Genoni Martinez has been involved in 44 percent of his team's goals this season, the highest such percentage in the MISL. Martinez is followed by St. Louis' Steve Butcher (39 percent) and Milwaukee's Greg Howes (35 percent).
