GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Peter Pappas, Philadelphia KiXX
Pappas earned a pair of victories this weekend, improving his record to 9-5 for the 2004-05 campaign. The native of Toronto, Ontario first picked up a 4-3 victory versus Kansas City on Saturday, turning away four of the seven shots he faced. Then Pappas stopped 17 of 22 chances for a 6-5 overtime win in Cleveland on Sunday. The seven-time all-star is currently ranked first in wins, second in minutes (836) and saves (181), third in save percentage (.736) and fourth in goals against average (4.66). This is the third weekly honor for Pappas this season (11/22/04 and 12/20/04).
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Carlos "Chile" Farias, Baltimore Blast
Blast forward Chile Farias led the Blast to back-to-back home wins this past weekend with four goals and one assist in the two games. Friday night in an 11-6 win over the Kansas City Comets, Farias recorded three goals and one assist, marking his second hat trick of the season. His first goal of Friday's game tied the game at 2-2 at 4:41 of the second quarter and his second goal of the night (a PPG) tied the game at 3-3 at 14:32 of the second quarter. He completed his hat trick at 4:06 of the fourth quarter to kick of the Blast's seven-goal run that clinched the victory. Saturday night Farias recorded one goal - the game-winner at 8:07 of the third quarter in the 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Wave. Farias leads the Blast and the MISL with 27 points this season in 16 games played. He ranks second on the Blast and is tied for second in the MISL with 16 goals. He also leads the Blast and is tied for third in the MISL with 11 assists. Farias was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week on 12/6/04.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Danny Kelly, Baltimore Blast
Blast veteran Danny Kelly, playing in just his second season as a defender, recorded one goal, two assists and four blocks this weekend, leading the Blast defense to just nine goals allowed in two games. On Friday night, Kelly tallied a goal, two assists and three blocks in the 11-6 win over the Kansas City Comets. His goal Friday night was the second of seven straight for the Blast and tied the game at 6-6. His first assist of the night tied the game at 3-3 and his second assist put the Blast ahead 8-6. The following night he recorded one block while helping the Blast hold the Milwaukee Wave to three goals. Kelly missed 12 games with a knee injury and returned to the playing field 1/2 in St. Louis. In the three games since his return, the Blast are 2-1.
