GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH
Brett Phillips, St. Louis Steamers
Phillips went 4-1 with a 3.30 goals against average and .814 save percentage (70 saves on 86 shots) for St. Louis in February, helping the Steamers to within one-half game of second place in the Central Division as March begins. The 36-year-old keeper's only loss of the month came against Monterrey on February 12 (a 6-3 defeat); in his other four February starts, he was 4-0 with a 2.81 goals against average and .855 save percentage. He was named Goalkeeper of the Week on February 23 after a seven-day span during which he won three games, allowed a total of nine goals, and saved 50 of 59 shots (.847 save percentage). The native of Tampa, FL, is now sixth in the League with a 5.24 goals against average, ranks fourth with 304 saves, and sits fifth in both minutes played (1,235) and save percentage (.738).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Pat Morris, Philadelphia KiXX
Morris earns his second straight Defensive Player of the Month award after leading his team in both blocks (12) and points (seven) in five February games. He was named the MISL's Defensive Player of the Week on February 9 after his finest weekend of the month, as he scored five points and blocked nine shots in two games on February 7 and 8 (both victories). The 26-year-old made his third straight All-Star appearance in the 2004 MISL All-Star Game on February 29. The Philadelphia native is currently second in the MISL with 58 blocks, and is fourth on the team with 23 points (15 goals, eight assists).
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Greg Howes, Milwaukee Wave
Howes continued the best season of his career with 14 goals and 17 points in six February games to lead all MISL scorers. He started and ended his month with four-goal performances, on February 1 against Monterrey (when he scored a total of six points) and February 22 against Philadelphia. He also added a hat trick against Dallas on February 14. The 26-year-old scored all three of his team's game-winning goals during the month, and is now tied for the MISL lead in that category. Howes, who played in his second consecutive All-Star Game this past Sunday (recording an assist), leads the League in both points (61) and goals (39), and is tied for fourth with 22 assists. He was also named the MISL's Offensive Player of the Month for December.
