WESTPORT, Conn. (Wednesday, January 11, 2006) - The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that it has suspended and fined St. Louis Steamers head coach Omid Namazi five additional games after reviewing Namazi's improper and unacceptable actions that followed the referee's decision to issue the head coach a red card, late in St. Louis' 7-6 overtime win over the Philadelphia KiXX at Philadelphia's Wachovia Spectrum on Friday, January 6, 2006.

Namazi, a sixth-year head coach in the League, has already served his automatic one-game suspension for receiving a red card by sitting out Saturday's (Jan. 7) 6-4 Steamers' loss to the host Chicago Storm. He will begin to serve his additional five-game suspension on Friday, January 13, when the Steamers visit the Milwaukee Wave. The additional four games include Saturday, January 21 at Philadelphia, Tuesday, January 24 versus Baltimore, Saturday, January 28 @ Baltimore, and Sunday, January 29 versus California.

Namazi's overall six-game suspension was mandated by the MISL Policies & Procedures Manual, in Section 17.9, which details the consequences of improper physical contact with a game official.

After thorough review of the post-game reports filed by all four referees officiating the game, and other consistent accounts of Namazi's actions in the incident that occurred in the fourth quarter, the MISL has issued the mandatory suspension for this unfortunate incident. Accordingly, Namazi will be eligible to return to the St. Louis bench for the Steamers February 4th game versus the Chicago Storm at St. Louis' Savvis Center. Omid Namazi and the St. Louis Steamers have the right to appeal the disciplinary action taken by the MISL.
