FORT MYERS, F.L. (April 21, 2008) - A season-high 15 hits and grand slam from Johnny Woodard powered the Fort Myers Miracle to a 10-4 victory on Monday night over the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Woodard finished the night with a season-best five RBI as the Miracle picked up their fifth straight win at home being victorious in 10 of their last 13 games.
The top five hitters in the Miracle lineup combined on a 13-for-21 night at the plate picking up all nine runs batted in. Woodard started things off with a RBI-single to center, plating Rene Tosoni in the first. Lakeland would get a solo home run from Jeramy Laster in the second, briefly tying the contest at 1-1.
A throwing error by Lakeland first baseman Pedro Cotto would lead to Whit Robbins scoring in the second. After Brian Dinkelman and Tosoni reached with lead-off singles in the third, Danny Valencia would draw a walk to load the bases. Woodard then connected on the money ball, a laser shot that just cleared the wall in right, for a fast 6-1 cushion.
In the seventh, Lakeland would cut the defecit down to two after Justin Justice connected on his second dinger of the year, a two-run blast to right, making it a 6-4 game. Dinkelman walked to start the Miracle seventh, stole second and promptly scored on Tosoni's single to center upping the advantage back to three.
The Miracle would tack on three insurance runs in their eighth, all with two-outs and the bases empty. Four-straight singles started by Toby Gardenhire would lead to Tosoni and Valencia RBI while Edward Ovalle capped off the frame with his second hit of the night, a run-scoring single to center.
Kevin Slowey, making his first of two scheduled rehab appearances for the Miracle, tossed three innings, allowing one run on one hit, with a walk and five strikeouts. Slowey looked sharp with his command firing an unofficial 49 pitches, 35 for strikes.
The Miracle will look for the second-straight home sweep at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night against the Flying Tigers. Southpaw Tyler Robertson (0-1, 2.57) gets the call for the Miracle opposite RHP Matt O'Brien (1-0, 3.86) for Lakeland.
