
Minor League Spring Training Launches At Hi Corbett Field

Tucson, AZ.-The Tucson Toros will host the Edmonton Capitals in Tucson for minor league Spring Training this season. Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup will officiate a proclamation designating this day as "Minor League Spring Training for Tucson" during a press conference scheduled to take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Hi Corbett Field. A 'first pitch' ceremony will follow the Mayor's presentation. Edmonton's baseball team and the Tucson Toros were both formally affiliated with the Pacific Coast League, now members of the "GBL" Golden Baseball League.
"This is the start of something exciting for Tucson's baseball fans, an opportunity to see minor league players from the GBL Canadian division and enjoy a sneak preview of their Tucson Toros," said Sean Smock, the Toros General Manager.
The Toros will also debut new technology this season, with free Wi-Fi at Tucson Toros baseball games. Toros have partnered with Simply Bits, a Tucson-based provider of network communications who will present Hi Corbett Field as Tucson's newest "Hot Spot" this summer for free wireless internet.
"We wanted to show our support for the Community, local sports fans and baseball in Tucson by making the public Internet more accessible," said Bradely Feder, managing member of Simply Bits. "It's really a great benefit for fans who need connectivity for devices like their laptops or iPhones while enjoying the game."
"Can't make the game? No worries," said Jay S Zucker, Owner of the Tucson Toros. "You can watch the games on the Internet". Tucson Toros will be streaming live home games this season on their web site www.tucsontoros.com. The Toros have partnered with Westend Studios to produce the games so fans can view them live from any Internet mobile device, the audio will be a simulcast of the radio broadcast by Toros Play-By-Play announcer, Katfish Kelly.
During the press conference, Media will be invited to view the reassembly of the Cessna 150 Airplane to be given away this season to a lucky fan. Crews from Tucson's non-profit Wright Flight will be on the concourse setting up the airplane for a season long static display.
