Miners Win in Walk off over Grizzlies

Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners draft picks from the Frontier League Draft came through in a big way as catcher Nick Crouse hit a game-winning single to score Ryan Curl to give the Miners a 3-2 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies in the bottom of the tenth inning.

Tyler Hall hit a triple with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, which set up Tyler Stubblefield's base hit to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. Miners starter Cody Hall pitched well in three innings as he gave up three hits and recorded one strikeout. Hayden Simpson pitched two innings in relief of Hall and gave up one walk and one hit. He recorded one strikeout.

The Grizzlies took the lead in the top of the seventh inning after an error by Brian Oliver and three base hits, which gave the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead. The Miners tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning as Gerardo Avila hit a base hit to score Tyler Stubblefield.

Brandon Cunniff pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 10th inning to earn the win.

The Southern Illinois Miners are the 2012 Frontier League Champions and have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year three times since its inception.
