Miners Win Again 7-2

MESA, ARIZONA -The Mesa Miners won their second straight game and took two out of the three games against the Chico Outlaws at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona.

The Outlaws got on the board early when Steve Booker hit the second pitch of the game thrown by starter Manny Ayala (3-2) for a solo home run. The Miners took a 4-1 lead by scoring four times in the third inning thanks to a 3-run home run by Marcus Knight. The home run was Knight's fourth of the year, tying him with teammate Caleb Maher for the Golden Baseball League. It was also Knight's second straight game with 4 RBI. Mesa scored three more times in the seventh inning to make the final score 7-2.

Ayala made his first start of the year and picked up the win by pitching 5.1 innings. The bullpen pitched 3.2 scoreless innings to secure the victory. Chico starter Jess Turner (1-3) took the loss by giving up four runs on eight hits in six innings.

The Surprise Fightin' Falcons make their first East Valley visit to Mesa starting tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. for a four-game series. The scheduled starters are to be announced.
