
Miners to give away grand prize to Fathers Day winner

MESA, ARIZONA - The Mesa Miners of the professional Golden Baseball League ran a "Best Dad" contest for a period of a few weeks. Entries were to be written by sons and/or daughters stating why their dad was the best. On Father's Day, during the game, over $10,000 worth of prizes were given away. The grand prize was a Mitsubishi 55" Big Screen TV. ABC Plumbing and Rooter Company, Inc. sponsored the prizes.
The "BEST DAD" award certificate was presented to the father of the son who wrote the winning entry, a Mr. Vernon Payne and his son, Dustin Payne of Gilbert. The television will be delivered on Wednesday, June 22 at their residence at 1:00 p.m. Father and son will be present along with representatives from the Mesa Miners and ABC Plumbing and Rooter.
The son read the winning entry, as the father stood with tears in his eyes and gratitude in his heart. The crowd showed their approval with load roars and applause. The Mesa Miners and ABC Plumbing and Rooter logged over 80 calls of appreciation by the fans for the feel-good-community-involvement in honoring area dads.
Entrants had to be present to win. A complex award system came out with the winner and subsequent winners of other prizes such as season tickets, memberships in PRP (Plumbers Reliance Program) plus health and safety inspections and certain plumbing services, Miner gift packs and dinners. Subsequent prizes ranged in value from $1,000 to $10. There were a total of 48 prizes given away during the game. Every person's name that was called was present and along with his prize, each received a frameable certificate. It was a 100% success for the team, the sponsor and the fans. There was a prize for every qualified entry.
