Miners Sign Lee University Pitcher
Pitcher Logan Workman has agreed to join the summer roster of the West Virginia Miners of the Prospect League. The agreement was announced on the morning of March 14 by the Beckley, WV-based team.
The 6'4" right-hander will join the 2018 Miners following the completion of his freshman season at Lee University, which is based in Cleveland, TN and competes in the NCAA D-II Gulf South Conference.
The beginning of Workman's college career has certainly agreed with him in the spring of 2018 as he posted an 0.79 earned run average in his first 8 appearances on the mound that saw him only yield one run over that time period. He recorded a 2-0 record over that 8 game stretch (through games of March 9) that saw him strike out 16 hitters in 11.1 innings of work versus issuing 7 bases on balls. He joined the Lee Flames following an outstanding high school baseball career in his hometown of Soddy Daisy,TN.
The Prospect League is the premier collegiate wood bat summer baseball league in the Midwest. It has been operating in its current form since 2009 while serving the summer baseball needs of top collegiate players. The West Virginia Miners, who play at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, WV, have been a member of the league since the beginning of the 2010 season. The team has reached the postseason playoffs in seven of their eight seasons in the Prospect League to date. These seven postseason appearances have included five trips to the league championship final series with three of the trips resulting with the Miners being crowned as Prospect League Champions (2012, 2013, 2016).
