East Kentucky Miners News Release
PIKEVILLE, KY. - There's no place like home. East Kentucky - one of four Continental Basketball Association (CBA) expansion franchises - will begin a six-game homestretch Wednesday at the East Kentucky Expo Center. The Miners will host the tradition-rich Albany Patroons Wednesday night inside their home arena in the first of six consecutive home games.
The two games - scheduled for Jan. 30 and 31 - are pivotal American Conference matchups. Wednesday night is Appalachian Wireless Miners Night. The first 2,000 fans - as part of the special promotion sponsored by the cellular telephone provider - can watch the American Conference contest for only $1. Every seat in the arena (excluding season ticket holder reserved seats, floor suites and courtside seats) is available for $1. Every ticket over 2,000 will only cost fans $5. The first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative t-shirt, courtesy of Appalachian Wireless.
East Kentucky dropped two games over the weekend in Yakima, Wash., falling to the almost perfect Yakama Sun Kings. The defending CBA champion, Yakama has only dropped one regular-season game in the 2007-08 campaign. The Miners faced the tough chore of taking on Yakama after the Sun Kings hosted the CBA All-Star Classic.
East Kentucky owns a 16-15 record heading into the two-game series versus Albany. The Miners are on a two-game losing skid following back-to-back losses to the talented Yakama team.
Albany holds a two-game edge in the all-time series versus the Miners. Through four games, East Kentucky is 1-3 against the Patroons.
The Miners are 3-2 over their last five games. Josh Pace leads the Miners and the CBA in scoring. Pace is averaging 23.2 points per game.
Mike Dean (4th, 21.5 ppg) and James "Boo" Jackson (7th, 20.1 ppg) reside with Pace in the CBA Top 10 scoring list.
Albany center Amal McCaskill is second in the league in rebounding and fifth in scoring. McCaskill is averaging a double-double of 20.5 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.
Albany is 15-11 and ranked second in the American Conference behind frontrunner Minot (23-8). The Patroons have won four straight games.
Pittsburgh (19-15) is ranked one spot ahead of fourth-place East Kentucky.
Following the Albany series, East Kentucky will welcome Great Falls for a pair of games Feb. 4 and 6. The Miners and Explorers have not met during the East Kentucky franchise's debut season.
Minot will visit the Expo Center Feb. 9-10 for a two-game series.
