Mesa Miners News Release
The Valley will once again become home to minor league baseball for the first time since the Vipers left Arizona in 2000. The Mesa Miners are one of eight charter teams in Arizona and California who will bring baseball action to their communities during the inaugural season of the Golden Baseball League.
In a unique concept to professional sports, all of the teams are owned by a single-entity, the Golden Baseball League. Investors of the Golden Baseball League include Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak and former NFL players Mike Sherrard (Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, NY Giants, and Denver Broncos) and Christian "The Nigerian Nightmare" Okoye (Kansas City Chiefs).
The Mesa Miners will play a 90-game schedule with 54 home games to be played at HoHoKam Park, the spring training facility of the Chicago Cubs. The season will begin in late May and conclude with the playoffs in September. Opening night for the Miners will be on Thursday, May 26 at 6:35 p.m. The Miners will be led by former pitcher Les Lancaster who will serve as manager. Lancaster played for the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers from 1987-1993.
We appreciate your support and involvement with our team. The Miners look forward to building a long lasting relationship with you.
