
Miners lose third straight game

MESA, ARIZONA âThe Mesa Miners dropped their third straight game after winning their first two games to start the season. After losing two to the Yuma Scorpions, the Miners lost 7-5 to the Long Beach Armada on Memorial Day.
For the fourth straight game, the visiting team got on the board in the first inning. The Armada scored one run in the first inning tonight against starter Julian Harris with an RBI single by red hot outfielder Travis McAndrews. McAndrews came into the game hitting .667 and finished 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Miners scored two runs of their own in the first inning with a RBI single by Cleatus Davidson and a RBI double by Adam Bonner to take a 2-1 lead. The Miners scored two more runs in the fifth inning with another RBI single by Davidson a solo home run (2) by Marcus Knight to make the score 4-1. But a five run inning by Long Beach in the sixth put them ahead for good.
Long Beach starter Reed Harvey (1-0) picked up the win, while Mesa reliever Mark Goodman (0-1) took the loss. The Armada finished the game with 7 runs on 12 hits and an error, and the Miners had 5 runs on 12 hits and an error.
Game two of the three game series continues tomorrow night at HoHoKam Park at 6:35 p.m. Scheduled starters are Grant Williams (1-0) for Mesa and Adam Pettyjohn (0-1) for Long Beach. As always, if you can not make it to the ballpark, you can listen live via internet at www.MesaMiners.com.
