Southern Illinois Miners News Release

MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners have traded outfielder Kevin House and infielder Andrew Bennett to the Edmonton Cracker-Cats of the Golden League for a player to be named later.

"Kevin and Andrew came in late in the season to help us when a couple of guys went down to injuries," Miners Manager Mike Pinto. "We really appreciate their contributions. Kevin will now have a chance to be an everyday centerfielder in Edmonton, and with Tony Roth back at second base for us this season, Andrew will be able to get some playing time up there. We wish them the best with our thanks."

House began last season with Gateway, but hit .316 in five games late in the season with the Miners. He set a franchise record when he stole four bases in his first game with Southern Illinois. House doubled and scored two runs in the Miners final playoff game of 2008.

Bennett hit .300 as a second baseman and pinch hitter for Southern Illinois in August last season and appeared in 12 of the Miners final regular season games after beginning the season as a rookie with his hometown St. Paul Saints of the American Association.

The Miners will begin the 2009 season in Evansville on Friday, May 22. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, May 29 at 7:05 p.m. For the latest news and updates, visit
