Miners beat Outlaws, 8-5

MESA, ARIZONA –The Mesa Miners won game two of the three game series by beating the Chico Outlaws 8-5 at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona.

Mesa was led by outfielder Marcus Knight who went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI. The Miners jumped out early by scoring twice in the first inning, once in the second, and twice more in the third for a 5-0 lead. Newly acquired infielder Paul Powell added to the offense with a sacrifice fly.

Chico starter Louis Evans (0-1), just off the disabled list, lasted only 1.1 innings giving up three runs on three hits. He also walked four Miner batters. Mesa starter Jason Navarro (1-2) picked up his first victory of the year, giving up three runs on eight hits in six innings. Closer Kelly Johnson recorded his fifth save of the season by throwing 1.2 scoreless innings.

The final game of the series is tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at HoHoKam Park. The scheduled starters are to be announced.
