Southern Illinois Miners News Release
Marion, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners have acquired OF Alvaro Ramirez from the Normal CornBelters to complete a trade from earlier in the season, when the Miners sent INF Sean Wilson to Normal for a player to be named later.
"Alvaro has proven himself to be an impact hitter and outstanding center fielder", Miners manager Mike Pinto said. "With the loss of Sean Harrell, we thought it was important to bring in an experienced hitter that could help us make a run to the playoffs."
Ramirez, who hails from Santiago of the Dominican Republic, is in his second season in the Frontier League. An all-star representative for Normal this season, Ramirez has played in 43 games. He has 44 hits with five doubles and two triples. He has 18 RBI on the season and has a batting average of .277.
Last season for Normal, Ramirez batted .328 with two home runs and 43 RBI. He amassed 124 hits, 24 doubles and seven triples. He was selected to the All-Star game in Lake Erie.
