Saint John Riptide News Release

The Manchester Millrats of the American Basketball Association, in partnership with the Beech Street School, made a personal appearance at the Manchester School today in support of the Mighty Miler Program.

The "Mighty Milers" are partnered with the Manchester Marathon Association, and the aim of the program is to have all the kids at Merchantsauto.com Stadium at 10:00 am on November 3rd. Then, the kids - all 1,000 of them - will run their final mile to complete the normal 26.2 mile marathon distance. The object is to teach kids about health, fitness and wellness.

The six hundred elementary school children were entertained by Millrat players Izzy Caro, Rashid Al-Kaleem, and Manchester Central alum P.J. Young. After a raucous hoops demonstration, the three Millrats led the kids through the basics of passing, shooting, and dribbling, and then wrapped up the performance by playing a five on five "game" with some lucky youngsters.

"The kids were going crazy after every made basket, even when the players were warming up," stated Millrats majority owner Jason Briggs, "and the guys were really great with the kids and we're proud to have them as our ambassadors."

The Manchester Millrats have been receiving invitations from area schools and are very happy to get involved and help out in the community. Schools interested in hosting a demonstration by the Millrat players may schedule an appearance by contacting millrats@gmail.com.

The Millrats are a new entry in the American Basketball Association (ABA), and will play their home games in the 'Fieldhouse' on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. The season and home opener is set for Sunday November 11, 2007 at 4:35 p.m. versus the Boston Blizzard. Single game, season and half season ticket plans are on sale now on www.manchestermillrats.com or by calling 1-866-9-GET TIX (1-866-943-8849).

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
