Millrats Host Rainmen, Seek Claim on First Place
January 17, 2009 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Saint John Riptide News Release
The Manchester Millrats began the season 0-2, but are now in the driver's seat and looking to claim first place in the Atlantic Division of the Premier Basketball League.
With a win on Sunday against the Halifax Rainmen, the Millrats will improve to a division leading record of 3-2. The Rainmen, who got off to a hot 3-0 start, have dropped their last two games. They lost at home against Montreal last Sunday, 105-103, and came up short in Vermont last night, losing 107-99 to the Frost Heaves.
Sunday's game also marks the return of former Millrat Rob Sanders to the Fieldhouse. Sanders, a 6'7 power forward, is averaging 19.0 points and 9.3 rebounds a game for the Rainmen. Sanders has become the on-court leader of the Rainmen since losing former ABA All-Star Eric Crookshank to suspension, and long range bomber Brian Silverhorn to injury. The Rainmen have also added 6'8 veteran power forward John Strickland to bolster the frontcourt.
"We're in control of our own destiny now and we're starting to come together as a team," stated Millrats Head Coach Rob Spon, "I'm proud of the way we kept our focus after starting 0-2, but we've still got alot of work to do."
Tip off will be 2:30pm at the Fieldhouse on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University. Tickets are just $10 for adults and $5 for kids 17 and under, and are available at the door or online at www.manchestermillrats.com. The game will also be webcast, courtesy of SNHU, and can be viewed by clicking here and choosing 'View the broadcast off-campus'.
