Arecibo, Puerto Rico: The Manchester Millrats fell to the Puerto Rico Capitanes 116-104 on the road in Premier Basketball League action.

The Capitanes feature several Puerto Rican Olympic team players including 6'3 shooting guard Larry Ayuso, and the PBL Player of the Week, power forward Angelo Reyes. And they came into this weekend sporting a 2-0 record, courtesy of two wins over the Maryland GreenHawks last weekend.

The Capitanes jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead, as Ayuso hit from deep to start the game. Manchester hung in there, but fell behind 29-23 by the end of the first quarter.

The Millrats rode the hot hand of guard Anthony Anderson (22 points in the first half), going on 30-21 run through the second quarter, and led 53-50 at the intermission.

In the second half, the two teams battled back and forth with Puerto Rico starting to take control with perimeter scoring by Ayuso and David Cortes. The fourth quarter began with a slight advantage, 78-77, for Puerto Rico. Consecutive field goals from Larry Ayuso and Omar Alvarado, took the Capitanes to a safer margin at 91-87 with 5 1/2 minutes left. The Millrats could not close the gap, and Puerto Rico secured a well fought victory.

Anthony Anderson led the Millrats with 36 points on 13-17 shooting. Dwight Brewington added 15, and Stanley Ocitti and Jose Guitian chipped in 14 a piece. Angelo Reyes scored 28 points and hauled down 13 rebounds while Larry Ayuso scored 25 points on 7-13 shooting from three point range.

With the loss Manchester drops to 1-1 on the season, while the Capitanes move to 3-0. Things do not get any easier for the Millrats on this road trip, as they travel from Puerto Rico to Oklahoma to face the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry (2-0) on Sunday. The Cavs defeated the Maryland GreenHawks tonight, 145-104.

Manchester then returns home for a double-header homestand on January 16th and 17th to face the Rochester RazorSharks and the Quebec Kebs.
