SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The Saint John Mill Rats zapped the Central Division leading London Lightning 114-110 in front of an exuberant crowd of 1,973 at Harbour Station.

"This was a character win against a great team," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon. "We never got down on ourselves when London had the lead, we kept digging down and fighting back."

London opened the game on a 16-8 run, but the Mill Rats clawed back to take a 20-18 lead on a Ricky Volcy three pointer. But the Lightning finished the quarter strong to lead 26-22.

In the second quarter again Saint John built grabbed a 44-42 lead when Gabe Freeman scored and was fouled. The Lightning again finished a quarter strong, leading 62-54 at the half.

In the third quarter the Mill Rats found themselves trailing 77-64 with 4 minutes left, which was a similar deficit they faced in their previous home game against Moncton. Just like in the Moncton game, the fourth quarter would belong to the Mill Rats.

Anthony Anderson got his driving game going to the basket in overdrive and knocked down 11-15 free throws. Key three pointers were made by Johnny Mayhane, Ricky Volcy, and Olu Famutimi.

The Mill Rats took the lead for good on an offensive rebound and put back by Anthony Stover to make it 109-108 at the 2:17 mark. Gabe Freeman's block on Akeem Scott was rebounded by Chris Smith, who was fouled. Smith was again clutch from the stripe down the stretch, hitting 5-6 to ice the game.

Saint John improves their record to 20-12 on the season while London drops to 21-11.

Anthony Anderson led 8 players in double figures for the Mill Rats with 20 points, Chris Smith 18, Ricky Volcy 15, Gabe Freeman 13, Johnny Mayhane 14, and Keith Gayden, Olu Famutimi, Anthony Stover all had 10.

The Mill Rats the Halifax Hurricanes at 2PM on Saturday to make way for a Saint John Sea Dogs playoff at 8PM that night.
