Saint John Riptide News Release
SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The Saint John Mill Rats won the first two games of an important weekend, knocking off the leaders from both divisions, but dropped the final game of a three-games-in-three-days stretch to the Halifax Hurricanes on the road. The final score was 143-103 in favor of the Hurricanes who exacted a measure of revenge for the Mill Rats win the previous night in Saint John.
"I played our starters big minutes the last two games which were back to back because we wanted to win those for our fans and to make a statement," said Mill Rats Head Coach Rob Spon. "We accomplished that but they were kind of banged up so I decided to use our bench much more, and give them big minutes. I wanted to see who would respond."
It was 18-16 Halifax midway through the first quarter before the Hurricanes went on a run to lead 35-26 after one. At the half they led 69-52.
Saint John record is now 21-13 while Halifax improves to 23-9.
Keith Gayden led Saint John in scoring with 24 points, Chris Smith had 20, Olu Famutimi had 18, Garrius Holloman 12, and Jabs Newby 10. Billy White led Halifax by 19.
The Mill Rats head to PEI to face the Island Storm on Friday, but are back in Harbour Station next Saturday night at 7PM to face the Island Storm in a rematch.
