(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats nearly rallied from an eighteen point deficit against the Kebs, but ultimately fell short 105-100.
This was the second game in as many nights in Quebec for Saint John, and the results were similar as both games went down to the wire.
On Monday night, the Mill Rats led 86-84 with 8.2 seconds remaining when Kebs guard Cedric Moodie tipped in his own miss. Video would reveal that the tip was indeed after the buzzer sounded, but nonetheless the officials awarded the basket to the Kebs which forced overtime. In the OT, the Kebs managed to pull out a 98-94 win.
On Tuesday night, Saint John dug itself a deep hole and spent all game trying to climb out. They trailed by as many as eighteen point in the first half and were down 54-41 at the break.
A rally in the 3rd cut the Quebec lead to 75-69. They would get as close as 81-80 before the Kebs pushed it back to a 102-94 lead with under a minute to play. Greg Plummer hit a desperation three point, and then after a stop, Antonio Burks hit a three in transition and the Kebs lead was suddenly down to 102-100 with 34 seconds left.
The Kebs Ralphy Holmes finished a hard baseline drive for the 4 point lead and the Mill Rats ran out of time trying to close the final gap.
Plummer led the Mill Rats with 22 points, Calvin Cage 18, and Antonio Burks 17. Ralphy Holmes posted a triple double with 17 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Saint John drops to 8-8 on the season while Quebec boosts their record to 12-5.
The next game for the Mill Rats is December 29th at home against the #1 ranked London Lightning, who are led by their Head Coach and former NBA All Star Michael Ray Richardson.
