Saint John Riptide News Release
(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats knocked off the defending champion Windsor Express, 112-102, at Harbour Station.
The Mill Rats played without the services of reigning League MVP Anthony Anderson, but led the game throughout.
A strong first quarter push gave the home team a 24-15 led after the first quarter. Windsor closed the game to 50-47, but a Kenny Jones layup, two free throws by Johnny Mayhane, and some good defense gave the Mill Rats a 7-point lead at intermission.
The Express got back in the game and took a brief 67-66 lead on Chris Common's three pointer with 4 minutes left in the third quarter. Raheem Singleton hit two three pointers during a big 16-8 run to regain a 7 point lead for Saint John heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Tyrone Levett was hot from three point land and the Mill Rats pushed out to a 16 point lead, their biggest of the night. Windsor pulled all starters with 2 minutes remaining after Alex Johnson hit Eric Crookshank for an alleyoop slam with 55 seconds left.
Kenny Jones was dominant all night with 30 points and 9 rebounds, Johnny Mayhane scored 26, Tyrone Levett 20, and Raheem Singleton 16. Chris Commons lead Windsor with 25.
