PBL Saint John Riptide

Mill Rats Frenetic Rally Falls Short

March 24, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Saint John Riptide News Release

The Saint John Mill Rats frenetic rally fell short as Marc Egerson's three point shot to win the game glanced off the rim, and the Quebec Kebs escaped with an 87-85 win in front of 3,519 fans.

The Mill Rats played from behind most of the game but rallied late in the fourth to take a 1 point lead. A series of miscues then gave Quebec an 86-80 lead with under a minute to play. Steve Deluca's three pointer, followed by a steal and driving layup by PJ Young cut the deficit to 86-85 with 11 seconds left.

Saint John next fouled Erick Barkley, who made 1 of 2 free throws for the final margin. Dwuan Rice pushed the ball up the court and found Egerson wide open behind the arc, but his three pointer missed.

The Mill Rats drop to 8-9 on the season while the Kebs improve to 12-7.

Dwuan Rice led Saint John with 23 points, 8 assists, and 7 steals. Royce Parran led five Kebs in double figures with 20.

The Mill Rats playoff hopes are now pinned on winning their final two games of the season against Halifax, or defeating Lawton and earning a split against the Rainmen and outscoring them by a combined 9 points over the last two.

Sunday they face the #1 ranked Lawton Fort-Sill Cavalry (17-2). The Cavalry have won three consecutive championships (two in the Continental Basketball Association and last season in the PBL), and are coached by former NBA All Star Michael Ray Richardson.

The final regular season games are:

Sunday - 4PM - Harbour Station - #1 Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry

Tuesday - 7PM - Harbour Station - #5 Halifax Rainmen

Thursday - 7PM - Metro Centre - #5 Halifax Rainmen

The current PBL standings are:

Lawton Fort-Sill Cavalry 17-2

Quebec Kebs 13-6

Rochester RazorSharks 11-8

Saint John Mill Rats 8-9

Halifax Rainmen 8-9

Bluegrass Stallions 6-13

Dayton Airstrikers 3-16
