
Mill Rats End Winning Streak at Home

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats, presented by Rogers, ended their 4 game winning streak by losing a tight battle to the London Lightning at Harbour Station on Friday evening in front of 2, 404 fans with a final score of 100-97.
After an And 1 play from Kenny Jones, the Mill Rats gained an early lead over the Lightning with 8:31 on the clock, 5-12. But with just under 5 minutes left in the quarter, the Lightning caught up, tying the game 14-14.
Although Mill Rats Kenny Jones played a huge first quarter netting 13 points alone, London held on and closed the first ahead, 29-26.
The second quarter, the Mill Rats battled hard, outscoring the lightning, 25-29. With 4:40 left before half, Julius Hodge, making his debut this game for Saint John, tied the game at the line, 42-42.
Ending the half, the Mill Rats were able to pull ahead, leading 54-55.
The third quarter, the Lightning were able to pull ahead and hold a 5 point lead for most of the quarter, closing 74-69.
The fourth quarter, the Lightning pulled ahead and were leading by as many as 12 points with just under 4 minutes left in play. The Mill Rats held on and battled. They were able to narrow the gap, after a great basket from Jones underneath off of Jerice Crouch's rebound, making it a 5 point game.
A dunk from Jones made it a 4 point game, 99-95, with 21.1 seconds left. Cavell Johnson was able to sink another 2 points, but the Mill Rats were forced to foul, putting former Mill Rats player Jermaine Blackburn on the line, shooting 1 for 2 for London.
Final score was 100-97 for the London Lightning. This is their second consecutive road win, as the team came up victorious against the Moncton Miracles last night, 102-92.
Leading scorer of the game was Kenny Jones who dropped 26 points. Behind him, was Cavell Johnson with 15.
Leading for the Lightning was Jermaine Blackburn with 15, while Elvin Mims and Adrian Moss each added 14 each.
The Mill Rats fall to 15-16 on the season while the Lightning rise to 26-4.
The Mill Rats are on the road Feb. 17th and 18th as they take on the Halifax Rainmen and the Summerside Storm.
The Mill Rats are back in action at Harbour Station on Thursday, Feb. 21st as they host the Summerside Storm! Game time is 7pm. It is also "Pink Jersey" night and fans are reminded to come out and wear pink. The jerseys will be auctioned off and all proceeds will go towards the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
