Mill Rats Announce Julian King as New Bench Boss

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats are pleased to announce that Julian King will serve as Head Coach for the 2014-15 season.
King replaces Rob Spon, who accepted a career opportunity with the Rochester Razorsharks in the PBL. Coincidentally King played for Rob Spon in '99-00 with the Magic City Snowbears of the IBA.
"Julian is a great coach, and I told Ian if he didn't hire him, I would have hired him as an my assistant in Rochester," said Spon. "He was a former pro in the minor leagues and in Europe so he will do a great job relating to the players, I have no doubt."
King, 41, is from the Washington, DC region and played two years for the legendry Hall of Fame coach John Cheney at Temple University, and then finished his college career at Coppin State in Baltimore. Professionally he participated in NBA camps, played in the ABA, USBL, IBA, EBA, and internationally in Mexico, Switzerland, Germany, Argentina, and Paraguay.
He served as Head Coach at T.C. Williams high school in Alexandria, Virginia from 2008-2014. In 2008, the school famously known as the real high school featured in the movie "Remember the Titans", won the AAA Virginia State Title. In addition, they won three district titles, two Northern region championships, and three state tournament appearances.
King has also been working as an advance scout for the WNBA's Connecticut Sun, and runs youth basketball training programs in the summer.
