Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars were held to just three hits on Thursday night as the Milwaukee Milkmen claimed a 2-0 shutout victory in front of 9,421 fans at Northwestern Medicine Field.

In a losing effort, Cougars (28-26) starter Vance Worley (5-4) earned his sixth straight quality start. The right-hander allowed just two runs across seven innings of work with four strikeouts against three walks.

However, Milwaukee (25-27) pitching proved to be a bit better tonight. Milkmen starter Christian Young (2-2) allowed just one hit across five innings of work with six strikeouts against one walk. In relief of Young, Kyle Huckaby, Frankie Bartow, Juan Echevarria, and Rodrigo Benoit combined to complete the shutout. Benoit earned his first save of the season with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning.

The Milkmen took the lead in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Keon Barnum doubled to deep center field before Correlle Prime walked and Wil Kengor singled to load the bases. Dylan Kelly then ripped a double to right-center field, scoring Barnum and Prime to make it 2-0.

Kane County loaded the bases in both the sixth and eighth innings but were held scoreless on both occasions.

The series with the Milkmen continues Friday night. Right-hander AJ Schugel (1-2, 6.75 ERA) will take the hill for Milwaukee against Cougars righty Jose Fuentes (3-1, 2.32 ERA) with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
