Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings and Utah Grizzlies played the final game of a short two game series in Salt Lake City tonight. The Grizzlies beat the Salmon Kings 5-2.

Victoria opened the scoring for the second straight night on the powerplay. Defenseman Kurt Drummond worked the puck to Jade Galbraith through Seth Leonard's cross ice pass. Galbraith one-timed Leonard's offering by Grizzlies Goaltender Justin Eddy, to give the Salmon Kings the 1-0 lead.

Utah tied the game after a Grizzlies dump in bounced just out of Victoria Goaltender Rob McVicar's reach. Forward Brad Herauf picked up the puck behind the red line and shot it at McVicar who was scrambling back to his net. Herauf's shot bounced off of the goaltender and into the net to tie the game at one, at the first intermission.

Jeff Miles got the Grizzlies off to a quick start in the second period. At 5:36 Miles took a pass at the top of the circle to the left of McVicar. Miles ripped a snap-snot by the goaltender to give Utah the 2-1 lead.

Miles scored his second of the night less than two minutes later when Utah won the face-off. Miles took the blast from the dot that chased McVicar, who was replaced by David Currie, with the score 3-1.

Defenseman Kurt Drummond drew the Salmon Kings within one. Drummond took the pass along the blueline, he stepped out from behind a screen and beat Eddy with a blast of his own, to make the score 3-2 at the second break.

Utah native DJ Jelitto scored his first goal in his home state, when he picked up a loose puck in Currie's slot, Jelitto spun and wristed it by the goaltender who was already committed to the first save.

The Grizzlies finished the scoring shortly after when a Colt King shot from the point deflected off Travis Rycroft in front of Currie, the puck trickled through the goaltender to make it 5-2.

The Salmon Kings finished 2-7 on the powerplay while the Grizzlies were shut out on the man advantage in seven opportunities. Utah out-shot Victoria 32-19 in Eddy's sixth win of the season.
