Milan Iloski's Tenth Goal of the Season Leads Orange County SC to a 1-0 Win Over New Mexico

July 29, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release

Orange County SC defeated New Mexico United 1-0 on Saturday, July 29 at a sold-out Championship Stadium in Irvine, CA behind the 10th goal of the season for the birthday boy Milan Iloski.

The home team were the aggressors early, putting in a couple of dangerous crosses in the box. OCSC defender Owen Lambe sent in a ball to defender Ryan Doghman in the 10th minute, but his header was saved by New Mexico goalkeeper Alex Tambakis.

The Black and Orange had another chance in the 17th minute as Lambe again sent a ball into the box, this time to forward Milan Iloski. Iloski fired a right-footed shot from just outside the center of the box that was punched away by Tambakis.

Iloski found himself on the receiving end of another cross by Lambe in the 24th minute on an OCSC corner. His header went wide of the goal, as OCSC continued to gain momentum in the attacking half.

Iloski found himself with a great chance in the 33rd minute following a pass from his brother midfielder Brian Iloski, although his shot was saved by Tambakis, his third save of the night.

New Mexico got their first real chance in the 37th minute as midfielder Nicky Hernandez headed in a ball to midfielder Josh Suggs. Suggs fired a left-footed shot from outside the box that barely missed the top left corner of the net.

Both teams went into the break scoreless, however, New Mexico appeared to come out of the halftime break on the front foot. They got an opportunity in the 55th minute as defender Will Seymore found forward Daniel Bruce whose right-footed shot from the center of the box went high and wide left.

New Mexico continued on the attack one minute later as Bruce found midfielder Amando Moreno whose right-footed strike from outside of the box was saved by OCSC goalkeeper Colin Shutler, his first save of the night.

The tide turned in the favor of the home team in the 80th minute as substitute forward Bryce Jamison found Milan Iloski with a through ball. The birthday boy tapped home the winner with his left foot giving OCSC the 1-0 lead, sending the sellout crowd of 5,500 at The Champ into a frenzy.

The game started to become chippy down the stretch as OCSC tried to preserve all three points. New Mexico defender Sam Hamilton picked up a straight red card in the seventh minute of stoppage time after a hard tackle from behind on Amang just outside the box.

On the ensuing free kick, OCSC defender Marcus Nakkim fired a shot over the bar, and the head referee blew the full-time whistle, giving the Black and Orange a crucial 1-0 victory.

OCSC will be back in action next weekend at San Diego Loyal SC on Saturday, August 5, before returning home to The Champ for Women's World Cup Wednesday on Wednesday, August 16 at 7pm vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Grab your tickets here today!
